An Italian cancer researcher, Dr. Morando Soffritti, has suddenly found himself in the middle of the furor about aspartame, the artificial sweetener marketed as NutraSweet and Equal. His seven-year study found that high usage of the chemical is associated with elevated incidence of leukemias, lymphomas, and other cancers in laboratory rats.
